Affidavit
A statement in writing made especially under oath or on affirmation before an authorized magistrate or officer. In other words, it contains an affirmation or verification, which means that it is made under oath or penalty and this serves as evidence for its statements and is required in court proceedings.
Affidavit is not treated as “evidence” within the meaning of Section 3 of the Evidence Act.
